I recently bought a 78 Spider and it was leaking fuel from the filler hose. After careful skin removal to take the hose off, I question if I should get the part from a distributor or if buying some rubber hose from my local home improvement store would be just as good. I want to see if I can find the same size diameter and maybe one that is pre-bent and just cut it to fit, as the old hose isn't in horrible shape, just dry-rotted. Does this seem like a somewhat reasonable idea, or am I missing something?

I'm no expert, but I'm hearing that the increasing percentage of ethanol that's being added to petrol is corroding rubber like there's no tomorrow. I think you need to be looking at ethanol resistant hoses. I've had a normal hose go in under a year (the one just after the fuel filter) spray petrol over the engine. Luckily I spotted it on start-up when the engine was still cold. Loads of advice on this on the US spider forum by the way.
