Hey guys, I've recently purchased my first daily driver, a 1981 Fiat Spider, I bought it knowing it needed allot of work and I was unable to take a test drive at the time because the starter was missing, since then I've replaced allot of the car and I thought it was road ready but I've discovered a rather unfortunate transmission issue:bang:, whenever I shift into reverse the car just sits there and the tranny makes a grinding noise, I'm really scared that it's something serious and I was hoping that maybe one of you could tell me otherwise, or at least tell me where to look, the clutch is definitely disengaging and yes I am pushing down on the shifter, could it be a simple tranny oil change? any help would be greatly appreciated because I really don't know what to do next. it's the 5 speed manual, if that helps.
thanks,
Brendan

I would do is drop the tranny oil and see what comes out. If there's chunks then welp pull the tranny and crack it open and see what you find. Transmissions aren't too hard to work on, its just bearings and gears with syncro's between the shift points.
