Through a process of elimination I'm replacing the ignition switch on out 79 2000. I bought a new correct switch and have the old one partially removed but it's being very stubborn. I have removed both the set screws and depressed the outside lock through the hole but still seems to be catching. Looking at the new switch it seems you would have to turn the key to the start position to get the steering lock to retract as much as possible. I'm sure I'm missing something simple here. Anyone done this before and can offer any tips?
