I am looking at purchasing my first Fiat, a 75 124 Spider. Everything on the car is in pretty good shape except the oil pan gasket leaks quite bad. I want the car but I don't want to have to change it right away. Is this a huge job? If I get it done somewhere how much am I looking at paying? (I typically do everything myself but I don't have the time with the holidays and the current owner offered to pay half of what it would cost to get it fixed). Thanks guys. This oil pan leak is basically the make or break point for this car.

I'm not a Fiat expert, and my car is a 1978 Spider ... but, for my car it looks like a pretty simple job. If you're reasonably mechanically inclined and you have the tools, it's probably a 1 hour job. I will tell you though that I have an oil leak too, but it's from the drain plug and not the pan gasket. The drain plug isn't the best design (straight bolt with no head), so you might want to look at that to make sure that's not the problem.

Thanks for the help guys. In looking at it I am almost positive I will need to raise the engine up to get it out to be able to throw in a new gasket. I would rather not have to do that right after purchasing the car though. If I can get the current owner to pony up the cash I am willing to go through with the deal (it's a trade for my 89 Sierra pickup for it. The car is most likely worth more, but I don't need the truck and the other guy does. Thanks.
