My recently acquired 124 Spider is running a low oil pressure. Where might I start to correct this?

Hi, pretty generic reply here but some things to go on with.

Make sure the engine oil is the right grade & weight for the engine.
Be sure the oil filter is clean.
For those above a mini-service would be the easiest way.

If no change, find & replace the oil pressure sender unit, probably mounted somewhere on or near to the oil pump.

Would be useful to know the engine, mileage, service history & when the oil light flashes (from cold, when hot, after a long run...)

Any nasty noises from the motor when the oil light flashes?

Do you have a pressure gauge or just the low pressure light? Either way, low pressure at idle is usually a function of a failing oil pump; if low pressure at speed it means the main bearings are worn out.

The pressure sender is attached to the oil filter housing under the engine.

OK here's some history: 25K original miles, the engine was rebuilt about 5 years ago due to two frozen pistons after having been neglected.(new pistons and rings, so I'm assuming the bearings were replaced also. I have a gauge not just a light. The previous owner said the oil and filter haven't been changed for over a year, wasn't driven much during that time. I'm going to try the new filter and fresh oil route first and go from there.
