I just bought a 1980 Fiat Spider (fuel injected)... and the car turns over and initially starts... then immediately stops. I checked the fuel supply to the injection rail... and it was OK. The original owner said that one of the injectors was clogged. Would this keep the engine from running? Any recommendations?

When you first start a FI Spider, the fuel pump by-passes the on/off switch in the airflow meter and runs briefly. Once it starts, the "door" in the AF meter must be open for the pump to run. It sounds as if the fuel pump switch in the AF meter may be bad or need cleaning. Your best bet is to get a copy of the FI diagnosis manual available at several websirtes.

Does your distributor have two sets of points? If it does, one set is for starting the engine and the other takes over after the engine starts. If the second pair is not adjusted right it may cause your car to start then stop.

Thanks guys. I found out last night that the air flow meter "door" is stuck. Looks like I need a new air flow meter?

I spent a couple of hours on it... and finally got the door moving... but it still sticks in a couple of spots. I think that I need a new one...
