So we purchased a Fiat Spider Fuel Injected 2000 and we are having a bit of trouble getting it started. It has spark and we installed a new fuel pump and all new rubber lines. Blew out all the metal lines and found bad gas in them. The issues we think it may be are the vacuum hoses, cold start valve or fuel pressure regulator. Again, we are very new to this so we are just going by common sense here. (American car common sense which I have realized is very different from Fiat common sense) :bang:
So anyone have any ideas on this one? We are working our way through one thing at a time, but if anyone has a good idea we would love to hear it!
Also, I am looking for the vacuum hose diagram for it. It is a 1985.
Thanks for reading! :worship:

Get a Fuel Injection Diagnosis Manual (available on-line at several sites). You could have a bad air flow meter, ecu, coolant temp sensor, combination relay, etc. The manual will lead you to the problem area.

Hi GeorgeT,

I am new to finding this info online and also need the diagnostic - could you provide a link or 2 to a site that will let me download it?

thanks

Steve

Hi, kinda new at this myself, We just did the same thing Replaced fuel pump and flu shed out the Tank. when I tried starting after that it turned over but would not fire. I found that I needed to go to the air intake where the mass air flow device is, when you pop the cover and manualy advance it you can hear the fuel pump kick in. I did this and that got the Fuel up to the Engine and Now it starts up every time. Not sure if this will help but it got us up and running. Now if I can just figure out the Rear Brakes. Good Luck!

not a fan of Spider F.I., and i only run carb'd Fiats... so i am not an expert here. that does not stop me from reading these type of posts. non-start is a big and common issue for newbie F.I. Spider owners; you are in good company.

what i have gleaned from these posts, is that the two most common failures are 1) fuel pump failure 2) AMF failure.

good luck, and please post your cure(s) when you find them. Help others along.
