Re: Welcome to the recent influx of Spider owners!

Hi. I just joined and am the former owner of a 1969 Positano Yellow 124 Sport Spyder I bought new in San Antonio just before I was commissioned in the Air Force. My wife and I drove it to assignments in Washington State and Arizona until we increased our family size and I got overseas orders. I've missed it lo these many years (decades?).
Now that I have ended both my 25-year USAF career and 21 years working at a Dept of Energy Physics Lab, I need something to do. That something is a red 1979 124 Spider 2000 that I may buy this weekend. We'll see.

Re: Welcome to the recent influx of Spider owners!

Hi all. I'm new to this forum, but familiar with it. About seven years ago, I had spinal surgery and couldn't own a sports car. I had a Miata before that and a 200 Spider before that. I admit, my 1992 Miata was a pretty refined car compared to a 1982 Fiat Spider. It didn't matter to me because I loved both of them. I even had a MGB-GT for a short period. I liked that car too! Anyway, I
am getting close to buying another Fiat Sipder. I truly love the styling of the car-especially with the lower ride hight and chrome bumpers. When I got my 1982 Spider, I had grand illusions of putting a small block Ford engine in it. The car was the green/smoke color and only had 20,000 miles on it. I really liked the driving and handling qualities of it and couldn't bring myself to modify a car as nice as it was. So, I sold it and got the Miata. After having the Miata for about a year, I sold it to a friend. A year later, I bought it back. I put the 5.0 Mustang engine in it and drove it a little over a year. I ended up selling that car to a fellow up in Conneticut. I think he still has it and he's over 70 like me. Anyway, I'm glad to be here.
