I happen to be looking at the tires on my "new" 1979 Spider 2000 and they say they are a 15" tire, but the wheels look original. I am no mechanic, but is this possible? Also, in the long run if this is the case, will I run into problems?

I believe (?) the 165/80R13 is described as the `standard’ & the 185/60R14 described as `optional’ – simply based on a manual I’ve viewed somewhere … I`ll try & trace this if of further interest(?) I don’t know where the 195/50R15 comes in the scheme of things – but it’s certainly listed on the Pirelli site(s).

185/60R14 v’s 195/50R15
Obviously there is a noticeable difference in the side wall – but otherwise the circ & revs are near identical: circ = 72.3 (+/- 0.1) ins, & revs/ml 888 (+/- 1). What the knock-on effects of the wider/heavier/larger rim are on the Spider are unknown to me.

1981 and before, stock was 13" tires. in 1981 the option existed for a 14" tire. i do not know of Fiat or Pininfarina ever offering or delivering a 15" tire on a Spider

therefore, if you have 15" tires on your car, and especially if it is a 1979... you do not have stock rims.

here is a picture of the stock rims for my 1980:

I believe that the '79 wore the same steel wheels from the factory.
