I am wondering if there is anything special that you need to do when installing a new water pump to make sure that it is working properly? I just put a new pump on my (1971) 850, and I don't think that it is working. The motor gets hot (210 degrees) just driving around the neighborhood, and the heater is not kicking out any hot air when I open it up.

I know that the radiator is full of fluid. I know that the belt is tight and is not slipping. I burped the air of out the system by cracking open the temperature sensing unit when the motor was hot. I am running a 160 degree thermostat, and I put it in boiling water to make sure that it opes properly. I flushed the radiator system out last fall when I put the car up for the winter. Etc...

I am out of options to correct this problem short of putting on a different pump and starting over again.

Any thoughts????

I had a similar problem with a different car. I resulted that the aftermarket water pump that I instaled was not circulating the water so it never reached temperature in one area and boiled in another part of the engine.
I would have the original water pump rebuilt and try installing it in place of the replacement that you installed.

Good luck (y)
