so I goin out to look at a 73 850 spyder that has been sitting in a barn for about 20 years. it was last driven 4 years ago. no rust, 65K miles, rebuilt head. interior is good and body is solid

is it worth 500 bucks. I've owned older alfa r's and had good luck but I'm worried about this little wonder of the road.

what should I look for? are the fuel tanks prone to rust? cooling system? brakes? he claims the brakes are froze and lines are bad. is this real problem or just a hassle?

what da ya all think?

Sounds absolutely super (y)

I never get to this part of the forum, but your title ('barn fresh'!) made me laugh :) I know where there's a lime-green 850 Spider stored in a roof (!)

I think the 850 often has radiator problems due to the closely-spaced fins corroding, but maybe not in this case. I guess you'll need to do a full mechanical rebuild (it may not run for a while!) but it has to be worth it at that price. A car like that would be worth thousands of dollars here in NZ. I presume you're in the USA?

Items such as the brakes have similar parts to the FIAT 128 (I think the front calipers are slightly smaller, but basically interchangable). Therefore, I don't think you'll have too much trouble finding replacements or rebuild kits.

Post some pics and show your project ;)

Heck, There's an 850 junkyard dog here in South Jersey for $800!

I'm trying to find the condition of the bumpers.
