I need help!!! I just purchased a 1976 Fiat Spider that wont start. The engine cranks and every now and then will backfire through the carb. It does not even sound like it wants to start. I have replaced the coil, points, Timing Belt (I think I placed it on correctly). I have checked for spark, and fuel (seams to be fine).

When I timed the car I set everything to the correct marks tdc I had a question on the crankshaft pully, it has a mark on the pully itself that I lined up with the mark on the plastic cover...is this the correct mark?

Could it be the distributor cap? Are there any other, adjustments, electrical etc that may need to be made to get this to start?

Any ideas would be appreciated...

might help if it wasn't in the Cento forum!:p

sounds to be doing what toms 1242 is doing tho, might help if you have a read through this thread https://www.fiatforum.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14108

( i know its a totally different engine, but it might have a few pointers)

if you think youve bent a valve you could allways do a comp test .if alls good it might be the carb or you might have a problem wit the distrb. good luck wit it .keep us posted .........(y)
