I have a 1979 Fiat Spider. I took a look at the brake pads and rotor's today and noticed that I need to put in a new set of rear pads.

I already have an extra set of pads for the front and was wondering if I could just put them in on the rear? Is it a problem to do this? They look the same, but will it work okay and is it okay to do this?

i double checked both my Vicks & International Auto catalogues just to be sure on this. Yup, i agree they look dang near the same.

both of the above menioned suppliers list two different part numbers. one part number for front pads and one part number for rear pads.

cannot recall what that difference is, but if you had a new set of each sitting in front of you, i am sure you could see the difference.

and, as they are under $20 a set NEW, why goof around? just get new pads for front and rear and be done with it.

Thanks for the reply. I ordered the rear pads a few days ago at pep boys. The only difference I see in them is that the rear ones have a little notch sticking out of the side a little bit, but it doesnt seem to serve a purpose...???...

It's for the parking brake in some fashion, I was trying to figure out exactly what it's for yesterday...

i hope you understand how to retract those rear pistons. they cannot be forced back into the caliper with C-clamps. they must be screwed in.

front pads wont work on the rear becuase the front pads are twice as thick. i just ordered a new set of ferodos for my car. im anxious to see if there all there hyped up to be.
