There was a similar thread to this a while back but was wondering whether anyone has had to source a new drivers steering wheel airbag. There are no secondhand ones ever available on eBay either for Abarth or Fiat. I've contacted my local Fiat/Abarth dealers and asked for new prices for both Abarth and Fiat badged ones but have had no reply.

Anyone got any idea how much one costs. I'm guessing around £800.

Just over £200

Looks like a bargain

Being a pyrotechnic device, there might be special rules about the sale of them. Dealers might not be allowed, or willing to sell unless you can prove you've had the training.
Could be a reason there are none on eBay. I expect the couriers will have rules about carrying explosive devices.

Unless I've missed
Somthing that's links for a fiat 500 not a 124 spider

And the drivers airbag for the 500 is listed as around €1392-1396 a lot more then £200

Didn't notice the forum section. Typecastboy does a lot of rebuilding of crashed 500s, hence my link. The price came from the website link. Sadly they do not seem to list the 124.

Oops! Just had another look, there's a sneaky 1 before the 200, with a gap, so I didn't notice. That makes more sense. I'll go back into my corner now.

I agree it is hard to see I hard to add it to my basket to be sure it was 1300

Airbags are always about £600 - 1000 depending on the car obviously and anything special going on with the airbag itself you’re always better off phoning the parts department and speaking to them direct for a price there and then on the phone

Wonder how much money car manufacturers make on a part like that?

Because I can't see it costing them anythink like they retail at

Or else the airbags would cost half the price of the entire car
Even considering if it had to be shipped by special courrier because of the explosive charge on them

I remember hearing a rumour that in the 80s when Ford's dagenham plant was in full swing it cost something like £300 to build a whole car and tyres where made just down the road and cost pennies for each car to have tyres.

Obviously technology makes things a lot more complicated now, but if they sell a car like my Golf for £32k new when you take into account the cost of machines, staff, facilities and transport, the raw cost of materials for building the car is probably well south of £10,000. but there are a huge amount of other things that have to be paid for including transportation, dealership running costs and profits, comissions etc, there are probably way more costs that come out than the cost of the actual product itself.

I don't know where Fiat makes it's airbags but transporting them even in a small parcel would probably cost you or I a huge amount to get it to the uk from any factory around Europe. Then the dealer still needs to make some money on that.
