TMPS issue

Earlier this week, my wife used the Spider to go visit a friend in Winchester (we live in Somerset). Lovely sunny day, top down, cruising down A303, about Andover the TPMS warning comes up. She checked the tyres and they were 2.1bar front and 2.2bar rear, slightly high but given ambient temp and steady 70mph for 40-50 miles, nothing out the ordinary.
I checked when cold this morning - all fine, so did a reset.
Anyone else had issues with TPMS?

Re: TMPS issue

Does the handbook give the TPMS tolerances?

Re: TMPS issue

No such luck, in fact it actually says in the description "If the air pressure of one or more tires is too low, the system warns the driver by indicating the warning light in the instrument cluster and operating a beep."
Doesn't mention being too high, until it goes on to describe a number of scenarios which may trigger it, including "The tire pressure is excessively higher than the specified pressure, or the tire pressure is suddenly lowered for some reason such as a tire burst during driving."

Re: TMPS issue

Not a lot of use then. Do you have any ability to monitor the tire pressures whilst on the move (MultiECUScan for example)? It would be interesting if there is perhaps one wheel which is reporting unusual pressures, perhaps a faulty sensor...

Re: TMPS issue

I don't have MultiECUScan and the Fiat/Mazda TPMS uses rotation speed from the ABS sensors to determine if one wheel is turning faster (or slower), indicating under (or over) inflation.
I checked them cold the other day and they were 28.4/28.8 psi at the front and 29.4 psi at the rear. I considered that to be OK and did a reset. I will set them al to exactly 29 psi and reset once more.

Hi Steve, Somerset, eh? Lucky you. Soon after purchase in April 2017, TPMS light was going during a number of long journeys. At first I would stop and check pressures for safety's sake but after the initial "panic" I would wait until I was back at home (Essex). It appears to be over sensitive (initially) to expansion in hot weather. However it has not appeared recently so hope yours resets itself too.

Re: TMPS issue

Hi Tony
Guess I am lucky living here in Somerset - had the "pleasure" of living in Harlow many years ago...
Not had any further TPMS issues I'm pleased to say. If there were a fuse for it, I'd pull it out and not have to bother with it. I'm not a fan of these modern driver 'aids', even less so if they are not reliable, but unfortunately the nanny state insists we have this.
Other than that, the car is awesome and love every minute of it!

At least using the ABS rings you won't have an issue when you put your winter wheels on

Love mine too. Had a Lotus Elise S1, saw it born at the factory. Sad at its leaving but my wife enjoys the Spider far more and I don't miss the Lot ! We did 2,500 miles thro' France in June/July 2017 (remains of Reims motor circuit, Mulhouse National Car Museum), Switzerland (mountain roads !!!), Italy (Lingotto Centre, ex Fiat factory) and amazing three day wedding ceremony in Grasse Centre of the perfume industry (.....no, no that was for the wife's benefit !!)

Must have been a fun trip. Did something similar a few years ago in my X1/9 (I loiter in that forum too): Oldtimer Gran Prix at the Nurburgring, over Stelvio and on to Turin. I splashed out and actually stayed at the hotel in Lingotto - you get access to the roof, but couldn't wangle getting the car up there - then back via Riems. Other than a bit of rough idle at the top of Stelvio (thin air maybe), the car was great. Still have it in my garage. Been there nearly 8 years since failing MoT on .... rust. It is being restored, though more emphasis on 'stored' until recently.

My Spider is leased and I'm limited to 10k miles over 2 years, but a trip to Italy would be an awesome way of using them
