I've had my Spider for about three weeks and have put about 450 miles on it. I sure hope that there are update flashes coming for the auto transmission. It's supposed to be the same transmission that was in my 2015 Abarth automatic with the same turbo 1400. First to second happens pretty quickly. Second to third and third to fourth don't occur until about 3000 rpm. Fifth happens about 50 mph and sixth happens about 60 mph. Today I tried the select shift mode and it wouldn't let me up shift until about 3000 rpm. All my observations were made while my acceleration was moderate (average).

If the transmission is not an Aisin, then the window sticker and the Fiat website are both guilty of lying.

As I said, I'm pretty sure it's a Mazda transmission, but I may also be wrong.
It's difficult to find information of the auto transmission used, except from Fiat USA website.
So it's entirely possible it's an Aisin unit, in which case Fiat should be able to answer Your questions :)

Santa,
It has a Fiat 1.4 turbo engine made in Italy. My 2015 Abarth automatic had the same drive train with the Aisin Automatic. The Mazda U.S. version has a 2.0 non turbo engine. The 1.4 turbo has slightly higher horsepower and torque ratings.

Are you in 'Sport' mode, or similar? Are there options that need selecting? Have you read the handbook to determine what can be selected, and have you tried all options?

Once you've answered all the above, it would appear that you'll have to consult the Fiat dealer if the transmission is different to the Mazda unit.

Yeah, I know about the different engines used by Fiat and Mazda, having had a Fiat Bravo with the 1.4 Turbo and now I have a Mazda CX-3 with the 2.0 NA engine with the Mazda auto transmission.
I just wasn't sure if Fiat used the Mazda transmission or the Aisin.
Since it's seems it's th Aisin, I think Your best bet is the Fiat dealer.
To bad it's not the Mazda auto trnamission they use, because it's really great :)

Hi gang,

It is now June 21 20017 and the USA 124 Spider currently does have the aisin automatic available. It also has the Abarth 1.4 turbocharged 160 HP engine standard in all versions of the Spider. The Abarth model adds a Monza exhaust system to bring the engine up to 164 HP. The Abarth version also has a stiffer suspension using Bilstein shocks. Brembro brakes are an optional extra for the Abarth.
