Hi everyone

help very much needed please, i think the automtic choke is sticking as the idle revs stay pretty much on 2K through cold to hot and sometimes it will drop to 1.5K then 1K then sticks back onto 2K, plus sometimes it won't start when warm , would this be the choke sticking? if so what can i do and is it easyish to sort out ?

First of all, have a read of this: https://www.fiatforum.com/x1-9/90465-sticking-choke.html

To answer your immediate question - yes it sounds like the choke is jamming on. Most likely the cause is that there is no water getting to the housing. Either there is an airlock (which would explain why occasionally it sort of works) or the pipes are so crusted up inside that no water is getting through.

The quick and easy test is to give the feed pipes a squeeze with your hand - if they go crunch it is a big chalk buildup at fault and you'll need to de-scale them.

Either way you'll need to bleed the air out of the system as the final step.

Thanks very much for your help, took it all apart and well, it was an absolute mess indeed, but cleaned it all carefully out and drained flushed the coolant throught the system, filled, and bled. Now idleing at 1K which i am assuming is correct? the car is alot different though!! the heater actually works better now too! :)
