Confusing

Why are the X1/9 and Toyota MR2 so similar?

To the untrained eye seeing one alone on the street, I'd be confused as to what it is.

"Those days"?

Well, Fiat/Bertone came to market 1973. Toyota copied it (instead of making anything innovative) as they brought MR2 to market in mid 80's. That American counterpart, Pontiac Fiero at least had the decency to look a bit different. Remember with bride - X1/9 was already about TEN years old before those cars dared to challange it.

Toyota did not copy the X1/9 - they copied the Fiero, if you look at the bonnet badge of a Mk1 MR2 you will find it has a Pontiac Firebird on it! The move back towards the X1/9 looks was Toyota trying to be creative...

The Fiero was Pontiac's attempt to copy the X1/9 and Montecarlo/Scorpion.
