Are you still interested or in the process of converting? What year X1/9? Where/what state are you located in? I've been upgrading my 1974 X1/9 that was previously converted by someone else - look on the EValbum, 3984. Great platform and plenty of space for batteries.

With the advancements we're having in battery and electric motor tech, I see this being a viable option in the near future for reasonable cost
And in such a small light car it could be a great platform, just like Tesla's first electric roadster made from the shell of a Lotus Elise!
However I don't think many people would want to lose the great sound of the x, me included
