I have a Bertone 1500 X19, 42000 miles. Clutch pedal will not return automatically after it is depressed. When I pull clutch pedal up and select any gear (engine running!) the gears do not engage,

I have checked fluid level in reservoir in front boot - no sign of loss of fluid.

Prior to this incident I have had no indication of clutch slip, gear difficulty etc.

What is the probable cause, please?

Has the clutch pedal return spring snapped? This bad boy...

Where is the spring, please?

Next to the clutch master cylinder. Above the pedal. It's quite big about 4 inches long, half inch diameter.
