Hi ,am i right in saying that before i start the car from cold the choke flap should be closed ie horizontal, and after i press the throttle the flap opens ie almost vertical .After it is warmed up the flap goes back horizontal or is it the other way round thanks Shaun

The other way around. Valve should be open, i.e., vertical, close when you press the throttle, and open again when the engine warms up. I tlhink it works with a bimetal spring that sits inside a small water manifold on the side of the carburetor. Easy to replace.

I thought most cars have manual coke retro fitted?

Mine never seemed to make any difference anyway. Just 5 pumps of the gas pedal on a cold morning... Maybe 3 attempts to start sometimes...
