Re: Engine

The smaller 1.6 HF engine is pretty sweet and thankfully a little smaller than the 2.0 engine so it fits a bit better (not much though).

A friend of mine had one in his (nearly 20 years ago!!!) and it worked well apart from regularly setting fire to the engine bay due to excess heat from the turbo and the gear linkage failing even more often.

The engine is about 140bhp stock on fuel injection or 130bhp on carbs (might need some fettling to get to that point for an old engine) and is good for a lot more than that if you have the money to spend. You would also find it is hard to sustain that kind of output as the power will drop off quickly as engine bay temperature rises unless you can get the intercooler working really well.

The gearbox that comes with it is one of the best Lancia have ever had but getting the linkage setup in an X1/9 will be the hardest part of the conversion.

One on fleabay at the moment: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=250264968991

Re: Engine

Thanks for the reply

i was speaking to a man and he has told me that he has one....
the car stood for 4 years before engine and gearbox was removed. less than 50,000 on the clock. he was gonna put it into his delta for track use/rallying . he has got all the works seals gaskets refurbed turbo and gearbox and lengthened gears. the turbo was sent away for a full rebuiled and clean up. the engine has also been polished and skimmed.

would u advise on buying this? and if yes how much would u spend?

i take it this is still a powerfull engine? lol...could u keep up with a 2.0 version?

about the intercooler.....what would you have to do to fit that?

Cheers

If it is as refurbished/tuned as he says it is then in my opinion the whole package is worth a minimum of £400, offer £250 and see how you get on

You should be able to, without any issues, with a well tuned 1.6T in an X1/9 compared to a normally aspirated 2 litre.

Sort out a good position for it and keep the pipework associated with the cooler to a minimum. You'll probably have to look for an aftermarket intercooler, plenty of those around
