Right Engine Mount

Hi Fellow X1/9 Owners!

Does anyone out there know the best way to replace the right engine mount that is by the timing belt. It looks like it's going to be a real battle...in the dark no less...I mean you can't see all of the bolts from the top. Am I suppose to feel my way or go in from the underneath?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Right Engine Mount

It shouldn't be too hard, this is how I would do it;

- chock the wheels!
- drain the cooling system
- remove the yellow plastic cambelt cover
- slightly raise/support the engine with a jack on the sump at the cambelt end of the motor
- undo the bolt from the mount you want to replace
- take off the top engine link on the other side of the motor
- jack the motor up gently, you should be able to get the mount clear of the body before straining/breaking anything else too much....!

- At this point you will need to either remove the pulley from the water pump or remove the whole water pump (if you could remove the pulley you may not need to drain the cooling system) If you have semi permeable arms you may be able to get to the bottom left hand bold without the waterpump stuff....

- remove the cambelt (if you are not confident to do this I would advise not starting )

- remove the 3x 17mm bolts - two at the bottom, one tucked in beneath the mount - you may need a long socket for this one.

the mount should come off now, you may need to put a drip tray beneath the engine if you didn't drain the coolant - the mount also clamps the water gallery end plate - if that plate is not sealed the quite a lot of coolant will come out...

Assembly is the reverse of the above - hope this helps!

Re: Right Engine Mount

Thanks Ladaspeed! Not sure if that mount is really worth all the effort, though.
