| Where can I get my alternator fixed... In Italy :D I perhaps rather foolishly have embarked on a tour of europe with my Exxy. I know, i know, was probably too much to expect it to get too far without problems. I had a very thorough service done before leaving the UK and it's been working like a charm until I got to the south of France. The problem I think is the alternator. The car doesnt turn over but bump starts(!) fine. The battery light had been coming on intermittently for a couple of days before hand. I'm bump starting my way to Italy tomorrow. Surely somewhere in the birthplace of the icsunonove I can get this sorted, can anyone point me in the right direction. Have tried google but i'm not sure of the correct combination of italian to get me going. Is the alternator interchangeable with one from a 124, Panda or an otherwise standard part? Could it be someting other than my amateur diagnosis of the alternator? Any advice gratefully received ![]()

| Re: Where can I get my alternator fixed... In Italy :D I'm sure ANY Fiat dealership will help you. If it's the alternator, you can find inexpensive replacements at almost any carpart shop overthere.

| In the Cone of Silence | Re: Where can I get my alternator fixed... In Italy :D The started problem that I had with my Exxy was almost identical, it wouldn't start, but you could bump start it, and the battery light also engaged. Try shorting out the starter motor terminal and if that works, check the wire leading from the ignition to the solenoid. Mine was loose, meaning the car wouldn't start. Michael

| Re: Where can I get my alternator fixed... In Italy :D Look at this thread, it might help you. I did quite a bit of research last year on my 20 year old electrical starting problem. http://www.fiatforum.com/x1-9/56138-...ng-issues.html Looking at my last entry on that thread, I did connect a relay to the ignition soleniod lead on the switching side of the realy (post 85/86) and then connected a bigger wire (AWG10) on the power side of the relay (post 30/87) going to the soleniod, I got the power directly from the main starter wire. I housed the relay on driver side firewall in the engine compartment. I might write the schematic of that modification. Fixing those two problem fixed my starting and other electrical problems. I don't think push starting (bump start?) your X 1/9 is good for the transmmission. Bob Lawbla 79 X 1/9 USA (first owner) 74 Spider USA
