| Battery Power Lose |

hi all

i have a problem with my battery....it keeps going dead on me....i used to have a alarm on it but that would use alot of battery power and was always dead when trying to get started, so i took that off....but for some reason 1/5 of a chance that my battery is flat when trying to start....i never use the radio/cd player as it is still getting built so it shouldn't be losing power as i am not using it???

any idea's

brian

Re: | Battery Power Lose |

It could be a worn out battery.

I think there is a lot of circuits in the X1/9 that stay live when the ignition is off, like the headlamp down circuit, and a couple of others, saw mention of them on the xweb (http://www.network54.com/Forum/12159/).

You could try disconnecting the +ve lead from the battery when not using the car and then reconnect when you go to start, if the battery has kept power then its something draining the power in the wiring, if it still goes flat chances are the battery is knackered or needs its water level topping up if its not a sealed type.

Another thing to check is that the alternator is charging the system correctly, with the engine running you should see about 14volts (I Think) at the battery, if your not getting that you could try replacing the cable going from the alternator to the battery, its quite a common problem when the cables get old.

If it is a live circuit drainging the battery you could try attaching a cutoff switch to the live lead from the battery.

Re: | Battery Power Lose |

i hardly use the car as i just turned 17 and gonna take me driving test in 3 weeks......so i wouldn't of thought me just moving it around my driveway would flatten the battery.....

i think my battery has passed it expire date tho lol....so i just go and buy a new one tomoz and say if it is any better....

Re: | Battery Power Lose |

Possible but batteries don't just stay charged indefinitely - even if you have them on a shelf in a shop they need charging up occasionally...
