hi,the car looks in very good condition the interior especially,is there a lot of rot?.When you get the new wheels i will by the centre caps off you ha ha.I am trying to put mine back to a earlier model model with corner bumpers and all the chrome mouldings etc.I do like the red over yellow paintwork as in your picture profile.Good luck with the work

Hi Shaun, thanks for the postive reply(y)

TBH there isn't that much rust...only a little on the front wing but i have fibre glassed it now...haha u can have the centre caps as i am going up a size ( 13" to 14" )....i have the bumpers aswell if u need them...but i would like some money for them though as i need some cash to finish the project:cry:....that yellow and red car in my profile picture is the Abarth X1/9...kind of a rally version of it i think, but not sure you will have to ask Jimbro...

Yeh it is a rally version of some kind i think but the colours would look nice with your body kit,i have got fibreglass replicas which i have spent a long time getting to fit but if you have original bumpers they go for very good money. How much do you want for the centre caps? or are you going to wait until you get your new alloys. Cheers Shaun

Hi All

I Am Getting My Dallara Bodykit Saturday/Sunday...

So I Will Post The Pictures On Here So You Lot Can See

Any Advice Would Be Very Helpfull (y)

Cheers

Yes - #1 take your time and don't rush it. Chances are it won't fit perfectly straight away. You will need to tweak the panels a little. If you need to cut material off make sure you do it a little bit at a time, you can't put it back on afterwards...

Make sure it is bonded and riveted on where possible, either option by itself is not ideal but rivets can be a bit obvious and far from attractive unless you like the '30s aircraft look!

Finally it is worth considering adding some more layers of mat to the back of the panel in places as the panels tend to be quite flexible, leading to the paint cracking. Thin panels is fine for racing but a nightmare for a polished road car.

When it comes to painting it I would suggest going with a colour you can get easily, it might limit your choice but when it comes to touching up stonechips it will pay dividends - and you *will* get a lot of stonechips, worse still they will be quite obvious (I was looking at a £4500 respray bill for my TVR due to having a specialist colour and the horrible way in which stone chips show up on GRP). If you are planning on sticking with the original red of the car keep in mind that the panels may take a bit of blending in before it looks right.

Hey

(I was looking at a £4500 respray bill for my TVR due to having a specialist colour and the horrible way in which stone chips show up on GRP)

BLOODY HELL!!! how much

i was thinking of having it Matt Black :slayer: not sure why i want that colour just do lol.

Thanks for the advice...i'll take loads of pics ok!

Cheers (y)

Yeah - thats what I thought. Problem was it was a three stage paint - base, colour and lacquer. Basically along the lines of a candy paint job. A note to all would be custom paint job buyers, never get a red candy paint job unless you are going to keep the car indoors out of sunlight!

Hey All

I am just making a Custom Spoiler for my X1/9 now......as i am a cheap skate and the real ones cost's loads :D

i should have pictures of the bodykit when it comes (y)

Cheers

Best of luck in fitting your kit mate. I fitted one of these a few years ago to my good lady's car (dallaraturbo), at the same time as doing a UT conversion. I used tigerseal, rivets, fibreglass and loads of gunk. Have added a few pics that may help you with your colour choice. I kind of liked it matt black a bit stelthy!! More pics on Turbocollective, charlie.

You will need to make sure everything is keyed up first and where you can i would use counter sunk screws to hold everything in place.I have used the tiger sealer before at work in a bodyshop and it is ok,anything along those lines should be ok but i have not done this kind of work for a long time. You can buy special bonding sealer which is a bit like windscreen sealer i can get the name of it tomorrow if you like.Hope this helps Shaun

I would go with the tigerseal, asked the guys at work and for the price cannot go wrong. You can use white spirit or degreaser and lots of rag to wash away excess sealer. If you use countersunk screws it is easier to take the panels off and on until you get them fitting then all you need to do is put a bit of filler over the screws when it is in place.Good luck
