noob

just brought home my new x1/9. i'll take some pics directly and put on my photobucket. few questions....one) it overheats very easily? any takers?
2) if i get you the vin, could someone tell me what options and such the car came with?

Can't help with the second point but for the first one it is likely to be down to either a blocked radiator, a jammed thermostat, engine running too lean or a blown headgasket.

Run a compression test first and see what happens and post the results here.

Jammed thermostats are not unheard of especially if the car has been stood for any length of time. Similar circumstances can result in the radiator blocking up, you can try flushing it but the odds are that if it is blocked the only real choice is likely to be a new radiator. Even if you do unblock the radiator you may find it starts to leak like a sieve...

ok thanks, i'll have to take a look at the t stat and rad. i was under the engine cover i guess you call it and the side of the engine that faces the passenger compartment is all cruddy.....so i'm thinking head gasket. i'll let you know if i end up needing one. thanks

Thats more likely to be the thin paper gasket between the head and the cam carrier, never seen one yet that doesn't leak!
