Bigger stroke crank

Hi all!
I am an owner of a 1978 series one X1/9 in Australia (currently being rebuilt), with a fiat regata 1500. As you all know these sohc engines do not develop enough torque adequate for both fast street/track and also driving in everyday traffic, and as an engine transplant is currently out of my budget i have decided to develope the sohc engine. I have recently read about Jupiter Fiat Power's 1500cc>1600cc crankshaft and was really interested until i found out the price... And shipping to Aust. I found out that thier crankshaft is the same specs as a Fiat tipo 1.6. My question, is there anyone in or around Aus who has one of these crankshafts? and how hard is it to install one of these (Do i need shorter rods, different pistons etc.)?

Any hgelp would be appreciated!

Matt.

Why not just fit the Tipo 1600 engine? Its what I am planning to do in my race Uno. I bought a whole Tipo for £60 (yes, really, & it ran & it still had an MOT!) and have taken the engine out in order to get the head prepared with bigger valves and fitted with the kent cam & the carbs from my old race engine.

Re: Bigger stroke crank

Hey thats an interesting idea, but as i said i do not have the bugdet for an engine conversion. Also the Tipo did not come to Aust or di it? So shipping an engine would cost a heap but a single crank would be ok i guess..

Thanks for your help though!

New Zealand
Re: Bigger stroke crank

Get one from NZ. Ive sent a few over to OZ for this reason.

Rods are the same length. Pistons have a lower compression height to make up for the longer stroke.
