Funny noises from my Uno 1.0 ie start

Hi guys, wonder if i could have a little bit of advice please :)

Ok, been driving the UNO since October last year and I have also known that the engine makes a few funny noises but I haven't been too bothered about it - it runs fine and with the window closed and a little bit of music, you can't hear it. However, now the sun is brightening up etc. and I MIGHT consider going a few long distance drives I want to make sure it is all ok.

My sounds are:

Firstly a constant tapping noise whilst driving, sometimes worse than other times. Checked tappets which my Grandfather and all measurements on cams etc. all exactly right, plenty of all getting there too.

The worse of the two is usually when I drop off the accelerator after revving (e.g. changing gear), the noise is difficult to describe and lasts about 0.3-0.5 seconds and goes "scriiiiiiii". It sounds a metallic noise. It only happens when I drop off the power.

I also have to look at selling the car in 6 months time and know that it will affect how easily sold the car is. These seem to have no affect on the driving of the car.

I know the above will be very difficult to advise on but worth a try is n't it?!

Regards
Paul

I think the tapping is ok. How do I check the cam belt tensioner and do i just need to oil it? We fitted a new cam belt about 8 months a go when I got it. My grandfather knows about his cars so I will say that to him and see what he says about sorting it out.

Regards and thanks.

I went out to have a fiddle and my dad is going to help me check the tension of the cam belt when he gets back.

More symptons:

Happens when going down or UP in rev's fairly randomly.
Happens permamently at some engine speeds for at least 20-30 seconds without changing
Is more audible inside the car (with window open) than under the bonnet which is making finding it very difficult.

My best description is like something metallic is rotating and scraping against metal at only certain engine speeds.

Sorry if this sounds like an odd problem, it probably be is. I don't want to spend days under the bonnet just to fix it but would prefer if I could find the problem!

Regards and thanks in advance,

Paul

If it's coming when you let your foot off the pedal, it might be your exhaust. Look at the weldings where the exhaust pipes attach to the silencers. But ofcource if it's coming from the engine bay, it's not worth checking.
