I need to know from where can i access the a/c blower and condenser which is supposed to be somewhere in the dash?

I think it needs serious cleaning and service cuz the fan's through hardly reaches the gear stick (n)

Can some one please guide me how to open it up for service?

The heater matrix (if thats the same/loctaed in the same place) is so far behind the dash i think i've heard of people removing it entirely to get to it. not fun job either way.

i really gotta do it, summer is already kicking in here .. and the A/C aint that effective without high speed fan throw.

Are we talking about completely removing the dash? including the staring and all the rest?

Like i said, i'm not too sure, i do know someone who took one out of a mk2 turbo and it took hours!

I'm sure someone will know one way or the other.

Is there any guide available? or can anyone guide me through few steps to undo least amount of dash in order to reach the A/C fan and condenser inside the dash. :bang:

I have done this on a corolla and a civic both had this mechanism right under the glove compartment in dash on passenger side, very easy access. I am hoping there is an easier way to get this done

It is relatively simple on the Uno. The heater unit is attached to the bulkhead (firewall) with four 10mm nuts. There is a screw concealed in the top of the dashboard on the Mk1 (under a small rectangular cover) - on the Mk2, it might be behind the ashtray, etc. You can remove the heater unit with the front panel/controls still attached.

wooaa niicce.. you mean if i take out the ashtray those two screws beneath it are gonna do magic of avoiding all the trouble to opent complete dash?

Let me say it without that much excitement :) If i take out those two screws under the ashtray on top of the middle panel.. that will allow me to take off the whole mid panel and the heater matrix/unit and give me direct access to the A/C grill?

I'm not sure for the Mk2. Don't forget the four 10mm nuts that hold the heater unit to the bulkhead - I'm pretty sure they're the same as the Mk1 - by 'bulkhead' I mean the firewall, the back wall of the engine bay.

I seem to recall that you pull the round knobs off to expose screws that hold the front trim onto the heater.

The best way is to try it, and let us know (with a photo or two, maybe). With jobs like this, you either follow steps in a manual, or you work your way methodically through all the screws, nuts, and bolts that you can find ;)

aaiighht .. seems like i am gonna have to get my hands on the un touched dash... i will post the pics soon.. planning to do this in 2 weeks time.. just got my complete engine overhauled and i am trying to avoid A/C use.. infact not using it at all.. thats what i have been told by the garage people .. they want me to run the engine without the A/C for about 1000 KM mileage. Its getting crazy Hot here, already 30C in day time.. phew!

Hey by the way those bulkhead screws you mentioned.. does that mean i have to go under the car to unscrew them from the back wall of the engine bay? or are these screws inside out.. i mean they are probably attached to the back wall of engine bay but they face is insidethe cabin?

Here's my plan.. will also send pics to elaborate :)

- take off the ashtray.. unscrew the huge screw underneeth that.
- undo 2 screws on the sides of the mid console on each side below the stereo..i think they on sides of cd compartment below stereo.. yup
- and vola! pull the whole mid console out to access the enclosed A/C and Heater matrix
- Then i am gonna unscrew the drain cover for the A/C
- I am hoping, by doing all this i will reach to A/C blowfan which should be behind the A/C evaporater

How does it sound to you?

before you do all this, check if there is a pollen filter,as there is in 'new' cars and they need to be replaced or thrown out.dont know if they had pollen filters in uno's,didnt know they did air con in them........

Hmm. That's what I'm wondering too.

Is there some loss of translation here? As I thought Uno's didn't come with Air conditioning, just the normal cooler and heater, with ambient air temp being drawn from outside to in.

Unless we're talking about one of the newer (Novo?) Uno's released in south America...

:)
