I plan to have the ring gear machined off a gt pulley i have with the intention of it being heat skrinked onto my uno pulley. I've offered the two up and there is plenty of metal to play with so who ever does it just has to measure twice and cut once. As far as i know the friction and fit will be sufficient to keep the ring gear in place as its not load bearing.

Comments?

I also need to get a fuel rail made but i have no idea where to start really. Due to the mk1 having the injectors at a funny angle ie not all parallel its going to be tricky.

What sot of cost do you think we're talking about for each?

Thanks

Tom

You dont actually need a fuel rail at all for a Mk1. You can just run hoses (with decent fittings) for the whole system.

Pully should work if you can get an engineer good enough. Why can you just use the GT pully?

Its been a good while Steve but if you can remember i'm converting my mk1 to use all gt management. I need the mk1 manifold modded a bit to take the push in style bosch injectors the mk2 and gt uses. I've had a look and its pretty simple stuff, its just the rail that will take some time making. I wont a nice solid ally rail to be honest though if it was way cheaper and esier i'd settle for hoses.

I'm need to use the trigger wheel on the gt pulley but wont/need to retain the OE v belt, that way i dont need to change the water pump or alternator pullies.

Hows things?

Good

How about a mk2 or GT manifold?

You can fit GT injectors straight into the mk1 bosses as far as I recall. you dont need to conver the manifold and rail to push in type. That would be a nightmere.

I want the engine to still look like a mk1 and i believe you need 80 to 100% of the engine cc's capacity in the plenum for a turbo'd car. I cant see the mk2/gt manifold being anywhere near that but i haven't checked. Asthetically i much prefer the mk1 inlet and i've had the wet and dry on mine!

I dont think a competent ally welder would find it hard to pool some ally into the holes for the injectors and re drill it to the correct dia for the push in style. If i do get the injectors to fit i will need either a pipe style rail or a fairly elaborate one as the mk1 inlet points the injectors at an angle as you know.

I know that MK1 inlet manifold can hold more air than a MK2/GT manifold

So ive been told...........

How do the GT injectors mount on to the fuel rail?
same as a MK2 UT?

Yeah same injectors basically just with a higher flow rate, 189 vs 238cc/min.

So the MK1 injectors sit at a different angle?

Do they sit like a V shape or a upawards pointing ^ arrow shape?

They sit like a "W" \ / \ /

Tom, why do you want to convert the manifold to "push in" when the GT injectors should fit straight in "clamp" style anyway. Either way you can still make the rail you wish.

The gt injectors dont look like they'll seal very well when clamped. I'll have another look tomorrow but i cant picture a seal near the base at all!?
