| Back once again w'the... | Toyo Series Hillclimb, Pirongia NZ Well - here it is, a 'preliminary video'. I have quite a bit more footage but due to repeated computer crashings and freezes, I have given up on editing it tonight - as it is, I edited these few clips 'blind' (Movie Maker wouldn't preview the movies - just stuck on one frame!) Will have a bigger video to give you a better idea, but due to atrocious weather there's not much coverage... sorry... Anyway, continuing the jjhepburn vs. alexGS battle... ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2Man3Dd7B0 The red markers are the finish line. We only had one practice & two timed runs (before the practice, neither of us had seen the road, and there were a number of fairly sharp drops, dirt banks, and flimsy fences...) Things weren't looking good after the first timed run, with James ahead by 0.2 of a second... really not acceptable when my Uno has TWICE the power! I'm just a useless driver. Look at all that unnecessary braking! At least when James brakes, he does it with style... my Uno didn't slip at all......except getting off the start! Putting a stopwatch against the video shows that I was a second faster by the time my car is out of sight... ![]() -Alex

| Back once again w'the... | Re: Toyo Series Hillclimb, Pirongia NZ Thanks Steve! yes we do, would you like to give me some ideas for a camera mount (or anyone else?) Screwing it to the rear shelf would not be strong enough (or, wouldn't look strong enough to pass scrutineering) - so maybe a bracket bolted to a rear seat belt pivot? My welder's at James' place, so he'll have to weld me something up... -Alex

| All Hail the Woodsman | Re: Toyo Series Hillclimb, Pirongia NZ Cool video, so the competition is hotting up. Would be a bit shameful if the Turbo has been beaten twice. Nice spin there, must be those skinny tyres probably not help by zero contact round the bend. I was also somewhat worried when the Yello Uno started to reverse towards the bank, didn't think it was going to stop! I have seen special camera mounting brackets for cars, bikes etc. Can't for the life of me think where. I just stumbled on the video for buying the 70s what is the progress on that little beast or did it meet its maker?

| Re: Toyo Series Hillclimb, Pirongia NZ How solid does a camera have to be? I had an idea for mounting it to the passenger's head rest. Make a simple bracket around the head rest.

| Classic Uno Obsessive | Re: Toyo Series Hillclimb, Pirongia NZ
Regarding a camera bracket, I can only suspect that TV companies use something similar to a 'steady cam', where the bracket isolates and damps out movement caused by the moving object its attached to. No idea if such a device is available for the home market though

| Classic Uno Obsessive | Re: Toyo Series Hillclimb, Pirongia NZ Just watched your vid again Alex. I noticed you had nearly a full load of fuel? Maybe JJHepburn didn't, which might have explained his little 'understeer moment' A bit more weight over the rear wheels might come in handy for extra traction And had a look at some of the other videos on YouTube: Uno turbo doing 240 kph (about 140mph)! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xp670v5nTrc And a non turbo Uno doing 200 kph (120mph)! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naehMT3IONk I knew I should have had my camera with me when I got my 45S to 110mph downhill

| Re: Toyo Series Hillclimb, Pirongia NZ Yes, I had half a tank of gas and I had removed the rear seatsI think you can see from my driving a classic example of what not to do when going around a corner, and this is to apply the brakes (even for a moment). Still it looks pretty cool ![]() Thanks for the video alex

| Re: Toyo Series Hillclimb, Pirongia NZ Oh and about the 70S, its getting there most work is centreing around the repaint at the moment. I have now spent most of the money I intend to.. The roof is ready to paint but I need some fine weather on a Saturday to do it. Give me another month and it'll be mint again

Greg Spark 0:55.46 seconds Steve Spiers 1:02.02 James Hepburn 1:12.80 Alex Shepherd 1:10.68 What's the point of in-car footage if I'm a full 15 seconds slower? It would look crap. -Alex

Hmm, I know all about how NOT to apply brake even lightly on a corner!! This was my first uno race car I had, freshly built, never raced yet, and on its first test session at Mallory Park!! Needless to say I learned a hard lesson, and touch wood, my latest uno has not ended up like this!

| Re: Toyo Series Hillclimb, Pirongia NZ You can apply the brakes in mid-corner you just have to be aware that it will slide, in rallying this is very useful and has saved me more than once. Watch any WRC driver and he will be using the brakes all the time to position the car. However many race cars lower their suspension, but i bet loads of them forget to adjust the rear brake bias valve which gives the system too much rear bias and can lead to such accidents.
