For those of you who appreciate the fiat sohc engine potential, I am currently having a monster 1500cc engine developed for my circuit racing uno. Last season, the engine developed 158bhp, but that was not enough!
Engine is currently having the following mods done as I speak :fully lightened/balnced bottom end -3kgs' off flywheel, crank knife edged, +6 oversize pistons (87mm), Jupiter spec full race head which has 40mm inlet valves, 36mm ex valves, race springs, ported/gasflowed, 11:1 comp ratio, Piper 320 full race cam, pair of twin weber 45's with 40mm chokes, ITG foam filters. Est realistic peformance figs should se at least 175bhp at flywheel, but more importantly much better torque/ more responsive!! Also the mk2 turbo gearbox I use has had a 3.7 cwp fitted, with quick shift . NGK Iradium 7's plugs, magnecor leads to boot. I'm looking forward to its first outing in a few weeks, so will let you know what she is producing!!

Sounds like a monster engine! Please post pics of both the car and engine!

Racing Unos are cool
I'll post some pics when the engine is back in then, but I may need some advice on how to post them on here, as I am a bit thick when it comes to that sort of thing!! :)

Ah ha, think I have learnt how to post pics lol, this is my little beauty!

A few more pics as requested. I am currently painting/improving interior of the race car, and will post a few more pics as I get them. Engine build has been a slow process, but hopefully I will be racing at Anglesey on 19th and 20th August, providing it is up and running! Uno turbo is a blast to drive, if not a little too stiff on suspension. I may have to put some softer springs on me thinks!

Uno turbo

I may be tempted to sell the uno turbo if anyone wants a nice one, as my race car is costing an arm and a leg to develop. It has done 103.000 miles, and had been dry stored for more than 5 years just before I bought it. It has had an awful lot of parts renewed, and has a very healthy/powerful engine, which does not burn oil/smoke etc. It does need some very minor finishing touches, such as rear wiper motor fixing/replacing ( I have a spare), rear washer pipe connecting. I want £1950 for it, and it has cost probably twice that to bring it up to the standard it is today. Bodywork is unbelievably good condition, only having paint on rear quarters due to minor scrapes.

Yep, you got that right! Having said that, every time I climb into the turbo and go for a spin, I think I would have to be dragged away kicking and screaming before I could part with it!! Race engine nearing completion now, new oil pump sourced, special valve guides made, should be ready next week!

It would be fun to see pics of yor engine buildup..

What is the valveguides made of? or is just for small diameter valves?

How was your powerband on the old engine?

The valve guides are bronze on inlet and exhaust, valves are chrome plated steel race items, which interestingly are modified ford cross-flow valves!! Inlets are 40mm, exhaust 36mm.

I can post some pics of engine when I get it back, but don't want to disturb engineer in build process, as its been a slow go process already!

Power band was about 3000-6500 on last engine spec. This engine tbc but it is designed to run at 9000rpm safely.

117bhp per litre, not bad for a 24 year old 8 valve little 1500cc normally aspirated engine is it!!

No, that is really good!:)

Sounds great, I would love to find out what you finally get. Are you going to get it dynoed on a bench setup or on a rolling road?
I have done basically exactaly the same mods but I am using the tipo 1600 block instead of the 1500 ( see my gallery under slapper).
What gearbox and diff are you using?
Good choice on the 45 DCOEs as my car realy struggled on the 40 DCOEs,

Happy testing
