| MOT Failure » Brakes Well, An Uno that I am responsible for looking after has failed its MoT on corrosion to the OSR brake lines. I have to replace the, and the flexi hose, and the flexi to wheel cylinder. Does the tank need to come down for this (its a 94 'L' Start). Also, what size end do I need to put on the new brake line (the new line is 3/16") Many thanks. Sorry, been a few years since I did brakes on an Uno, and the last one was my 1994 UT.

| Back once again w'the... | Re: MOT Failure » Brakes Hello Cipher (and welcome to the forum,) Fitting the brake line is the easy part. The rigid pipe is just clipped to the rear axle beam, so I don't believe it's necessary to remove the fuel tank or anything else. However, making up the brake line is something I wouldn't try myself, since it's metric (and you quoted 3/16"), has a 'bubble' flare (basically a peculiar shape with convex end that most flaring tools can't produce), and a weird-size union nut having 11mm across the flats. If you have all the bits, fine... but I'd just be swapping a pipe from another car if I had this problem (our fixed pipes don't rust very often though, since we don't have salt on the roads...) Sorry if this is no help to you; please let us know the answer if you figure it out ![]() -Alex

| Re: MOT Failure » Brakes I changed my all lines a couple of years ago (Uno 60s) you need short male M10 1.00 thread for the lines and M8 1.00 for the bleed valves. (I got mine mail order from automec) As for making the ends I got a Sykes Pickavant flaring tool of ebay then resold afterwards for more! If you're lucky the brake line conectors wont be rusted onto the 3 way valve at the rear, or the compensator, otherwise you'll need ones of those too.

| Re: MOT Failure » Brakes Thanks for your replies, but they have Part-ex'd the Uno for a Vauxhall Astra. I had my mechanical training in Vauxhall, so am more familiar with these than Fiat's. But, thanks for the info, at least I know now what sizes I need, should I get hold of another Uno Turbo! Used to have a nice Mk2 but it met its end with a Nissan Micra (K12) They are solid cars!
