Hi guys,

I have a Petrol, 1Lt Fiat Uno which has been giving me a lot of problems. The source of all the problems is the Carb. My Uno has the weber carb, and uses 2 floats. One of the floats has developed a crack and is full of petrol. The local dealer here ( I'm from India ) changed the float after a lot of hunting, and told me he installed a new float. But it looks like he lied, the float is filled with Petrol again, and it looks to me as if the float was not new, but a reconditioned unit. Do you have any suggestions? These spare parts are not available here.

All help is appreciated!

If you can drill/cut a hole in the float, perhaps you can fill it with space-expanding foam - the yellow stuff sold in a can for filling gaps in house construction - it sprays out and then expands vigorously. I am not sure about how well it will withstand the petrol - probably best to test first by filling a ball or similar and placing in a small jar of petrol.

I don't think this is a common fault, so even having a float posted to you from elsewhere may be a good idea.

Just my ideas.
Thanks,
-Alex

hi there

I have the same problem. Want to know if rubber shrink wrap will work to seal it since mine has a leak on the seal of the moulding, petrol gets in, float gets heavy and carb floats it self
:bang:

You need to be careful making DIY floats, if they're different density to the original then they'll move differently! so the fuelling rate will be affected.

These chaps here have plastic & brass floats listed for Weber 32 ICEV, you could email and ask if they will sell you a single float, and also double check it's exactly the right part,

I can't get the website URL to show up properly, you need to click on the ''4FLOATS'' at the bottom of the page, where the row of boxes are, it is Sheet 008 & reads like this,

"F318 41020001 WEBER 32ICEE-ICEV- 16 BRASS £14.99 F9
F319 41020002 WEBER 32ICA-ICEV- 6 PLASTIC £15.99 F9"

"F334 41030035 WEBER 32TL TLF-TLP-TLC 4 PLASTIC £24.99 F9"

Not sure if your carb is TLF or ICEV?
