Re: 2 unique mods

hey bushboy...those are the standard seats of the FIAT UNO. In fact they match the front ones. All I did was added the headrests. They are from a vw polo. Got them from a scrapyard. The front headrests will be made similar as I am making covers which will go over the current ones.

I also made 2 lights inside for one good reason. THe standard light is in the middle of the car. When trying to see something at night, the light puts your shadow on what you have infront of you. Now with the new light just infront of the mirror there are NO shadows and I can see better!

Re: 2 unique mods

I like the idea of the front light - I may be following along the same line soon, although originally I thought of the clock/map reading light from a scrapyard. This solution seems simpler (as I have the light already, well hidden somewhere in a cellar) while providing more light.
I am also thinking about baggage space light, did not decide yet whether it will go to the ceiling, sides or maybe backseat...

Re: 2 unique mods

Nice detailing Drinu!

I thought maybe you'd re-trimmed the headlining as it looks a lot nicer than the chequered-toilet-paper that is standard fit for the Mk1 and Mk2 that I've seen.

What are the head restraints fastened to - an extra bar? Can you take them off if you need to fold the seat? It's quite challenging to fit rear head restraints that satisfy both these goals... the rear seats of my Alfa don't fold.

My friend jjhepburn put in not one but TWO interior lights in the side panels of the baggage space... he cut some rectangular holes in the plastic panels that cover the holes in the framework, then carefully trimmed the carpet so that the standard roof lights press in and hold the carpet in place. It looks great, and he put a door switch on the right rear shelf support in the groove where the strut comes to rest with the tailgate closed.

Strangely he won't trust the switch and so leaves the lights switched 'off'... frustrating to me as it always seems to work perfectly when I test it Actually you only need one of the lights to find things easily...

Re: 2 unique mods

alex gs: Well the rear head-restraints are not fastened at all they are just placed. They wont move from where they are, and should I need to move the seats down, all I have to do is pull them up and out they go. The headrests have two steel rods coming out of their bottom. These steel rods are passed between the seat back and the rear shelf so they wont move. I will take pics when I got time.

Regarding the rear boot light....I have one as well...and it has a switch, so that it switches off when I close the boot. Im sure the light goes off as I have tested it.hehe. I put mine on the side and I used a 12v halogen light which was supposed to be used in my mums wardrobe. It was extra and it being 12v I took it.hehe

Re: 2 unique mods

I got myself a front interior light and a clock unit as well

Nice work Drinu, and a smart idea to use another light unit mounted at the front!

I must admit that like Alex I thought you'd recovered your headlining, and Alex's comment about 'chequered toilet paper' certainly rang true for mine I removed my headlining last year to sort out the sunroof seal, and planned on recovering it. But best laid plans and all that, it's still sitting in my spare room awaiting attention...

Re: 2 unique mods

The least laborious way to renew roof lining is to use generic water-soluble acrylic paint and electric sprayer - this is what I tried on my first Uno.
Now I am thinking about applying Fleckstone or similar over the acrylic "primer" to mask the scratches.

Re: 2 unique mods

yes to cover the roof I would use speaker cover. Near me there is an upholsterer who has a service which he calls VELCOAT! Basically what he does is spray a velour type substance using a spray gun onto a surface to create a surface like velour. Gives a very cool effect but is very expensive.

1986Uno45S: I thought of fixing a light like yours as I had actually found one, however I didnt like the idea of having 2 clocks especially when the display was red. It would seem like it was an aftermarket installation.
