I would say you're on about your limit to get much of either for £1000. The punto depriciates a lot more than the corsa (as with all fiats) and hence is probably your best bet. Bushboy is correct, too many Corsa's. I don't have a huge alligiance to the Fiat brand, just drive one because they are cheap. DOn't expect more than mediocre build quality from Punto but you can't expect more from the bottom of the range Vauxhall either.

Thing to watch on the punto, make sure it has the RED KEY when you buy it. It holds all the info for the immobiliser and ECU, without which you might have problems in the future. Total cost to fix is about £600-800 from a Fiat dealer. It annoys the heck out of Fiat Punto buyers supposedly.

The Citroen AX isn't a bad bet or the Uno at the lower end of the market (N reg topping £600 down to K-reg worth no more than £300) Compare that to the Punto or Corsa...!

WIth regards to your theory and driving test, best of luck. Get the "Focus - passing your theory test" CD, about £10 from Smiths, very good and has hazard preception practice too. Worth it if you only have to take your test once because then it is done easily! Depends where you are in the country but again, Bushboy is correct, most places have waiting lists around 8 weeks so you would be lucky getting it so soon. For me, I was lucky, was going to have to wait about 8 weeks but got a cancellation very quickly on friday 13th.. No guesses to why I got a cancellation on that day!

SO to summarise, I wouldn't agree the Corsa is crap, especially not relative to the Punto, if i were you I would see what your money would get you and try both to see which you prefer - it comes down to a personal preference at that point.

Rgds and hope I have been of some help.

Paul

I agree, go for a Cinq, you'll have no bother getting one for a grand.

IF U DARE GET A CORSA I WILL PERSONALLY DRIVE DOWN TO BASILDON AND KICK U RATHER HARD IN THE KNAKERS!!!!!!! please dont get one its hard enough to get people to buy fiat cars and then u want to buy a f**kin corsa! how tall are u? 6ft or over if u r then u cant have a corsa without your head rubbing on the roof! plus if u have passengers then i hold they have no legs cos if they do they will have to put them over ur sholders because wen u have your seat back they wont be able to sit in the back! so please for all the love of god do NOT buy a fukin corsa FFS!

gotta love the uno's

So thats no for the corsa then huh LoL.

Na i would rather have a Punto anyway as for the cinq it would probably be easier to get one of them for a grand but i wanted a car with a bit more space in since i am gonna be going on holiday with my mates around summer sometime and apparently theres gonna be quite a few people going and they'll be about 4 - 6 of us driving so 6 cars.

I'm also going Reading festival and both to the festival and to devon for my holiday i am gonna be wanting a car that can carry a decent load and that is spacious inside since if i can't be assed with a tent would it be easy to remove backseats and leave them at home and sleep in the back of my car and would it be able to fit 2 people side by side i might get lucky LoL ;):I

and what litre is recommended i was thinking 1.2i

:D

Mediocre build quality? My 93 Cinq I wouldnt say is exactly cared for, nor neglected..and everything on that so far, except two things (1 was expected anyway) has remained intact, with no intention of moving.... Given the price of it, Im amazed at the build quality...like my mates 90 Uno 45 that was constantly thrashed for 2 years and refused to die!!!

Ive seen more Vauxhall sheds than I have Fiats....

Oh, my Cinq has managed it to Wales (3hr drive) with 3 people, 4 crates of beer and the rest of the car full of camping gear (I was using the side mirrors) and Still managed to fairly easily average 75Mph (Its only 900cc!!), I even got 95 down a hill!!

Arse

Faded red anyone?

Cinqs are surprisingly roomy. Take a spin in one sometime and you'll see.

As for a Punto, you should pick an early one up for 1000 easy enough.
