| Banned | Oil in boost hoses Just a quick question really. how much oil should there be in the induction/boost hoses on a turbo? I know its pretty common to have some oil "come out" (for lack of better phrasing) of the dump valve and so it must be natural to get some in there. I took some of the hoses off today to have a check and a clean and sound some oil on the walls of the hoses. Im assume its just from vapour thats gathered over time etc. ![]() Cheers!

| oh me gums! | Re: Oil in boost hoses i get what i will technically call a trickle of oil in the hoses on mine. i think if its a big problem then its evident by the amount of oil ot leaves in the hoses. | ||

| Back once again w'the... | Re: Oil in boost hoses Yes, I found quite a lot of oil and dirt in the dump valve and pipes on mine. The outside of the various components gets caked in oily gunk as well. I think it's normal. Clean it all up and see what returns, is usually my bet. Particularly try to keep the short right-angled hoses (on the turbo) externally clean, to prevent the rubber softening undesirably? Incidentally my engine oil looked very dirty, despite having changed it a few thousand miles before. I used my now-usual technique of draining the old oil, filling up with cheap (supermarket 20W40) new oil (or even just half-filling to save the earth's resources, after all it is $7-worth), running the engine (while still warm) for a few minutes, draining out the (now dirty) oil, and THEN changing the filter and pouring the new semi-synthetic oil in. I'm happy to report that the new oil still looks like new, even after a good thrashing ![]() -Alex

| Re: Oil in boost hoses Been doing that system with oil changes on the rally car, Tesco's sell 1 litre bottles of 20w50 for 93p each (sorry not sure what that is in other countries but less than 1/2 a pint here !). I use three bottles of these, before putting in 40 quids worth of Mobil 1.
