What is my engine???

Im a little confused. Up untill now I have thought that my car had the 999cc Fire carb engine. But when i bought the car i was told it was an injection engine. My car does have a carb (or atleast its what i call a carb, the thing that the air filter is joined onto..) and so surely its no injection (although maybe injection have both?? i dont know) ... but then today, i found the original air filter (i had lost it when i put in the greens air filter) and its got a fiat badge on it that says "Fuel Injection" on it. could this mean that my car is the fuel injection version? Also its the Fiat Uno IE ... i was told once that IE ment fuel injection.

Your car is fuel injected. It has Single Point Injection. It's an early type of fuel injection that apparently aids fuel economy.

Hei.

It's a kind of a compromise between a carburettor and an injection. It is called injection though, because the fuel is pumped in.

ahh so it is injection then. Always wondered that. When i buy stuff like engine cleaner etc should i get the Carb stuff or the injection stuff? cause stuff like Redex injection is probably intended for todays injection cars and not mine.. so would the carb redex work better?

Yup, it's the same thing as on my 55SX Punto (1.1-litre SPi fuel injection), it's basically a carb but instead of jets there's a single fuel injector to squirt fuel in. It's a bit more efficient than a carb, but it's an awkward complicated b**ch of a system to work on!
If you buy engine cleaner then go for injection-oriented stuff as it's specifically designed to clean injectors.

Yes the joys of injection, it may do lots of things??? but it really took what little edge there was off the uno 999cc fires' performance.
My old '88 carb fed uno gave 45-50mpg and was good for an indicated 95mph...my '92 IE can never better 40-42mpg and has less power...progess this was not. having said that emissions are better and interestingly the old uno is much cleaner running than our cinquecento and our 16v punto I can't work that out either.
