Hi Guys
My starter motor has been screeching for a while now so I was not surprised when it died today.
I took it off and found the bush has worn on the spindle making it rattle around.
It is the Marelli model
Before I go and buy a replacement is it possible to replace the bush and if so where can I get such a part?
Thanks

I am sure you can replace the bush you wont need the exact same bush (I used to work with electric motors) all we ever used to do was get a block of copper cut it down and 'screw' the wire to the back (these were for robots)

That should get you to a scrappy!

But all things considered i would e-bay

Cheaper by far would be to go to a scrap yard and take the bushes off an old one, that way you won't have to pay for postage of a big heavy motor and they are bloomin heavy!
Also you shouldn't have to take your motor out at all to do that!

Will.

I might be wrong here with naming the part but I do not mean the brushes inside the motor but the bush which holds the spindle bar in a center position.
The metal around this has worn down on oneside causing the spindle to spin off center.

It should, in theory, be possible to replace that bush. But, getting it out and the new one in would be tricky. And also, I assume you're not referring to the 'thick washer' which usually floats around a bit.

It's the sort of job that you take to a small engineering shop to make up a new bush on a lathe. But, I'd have thought that a used starter motor (which you then rebuild with new brushes, cleaned commutator etc.) would prove more economic. I haven't seen that fault before - sorry for the bad luck ;)

Incidentally, new *brushes* are readily available from auto electricians.
