Gear probs (not unfashional clothing)

1992 1.1 chic 1108 engine

Gear selection is sloppy at best. Any ideas? Is the gear linkage adjustable? Should I just accept that the car has done 83k and is a 'foriegn' car.

Car otherwise runs really well now. see Drinking water is good? posted previously
