Problems Starting

My uno has been off the road but sorted it? NEW HT LEADS not the coil Hurray.

But the battery is flat and i was wondering does any1 know how fast it can charge ? Is it possible to charge it to full capcity just by driving or should i get a new 1

Is there any common problems with them not charging

If you jump-start it and drive it for an hour or so, it should charge it up so long as the battery itself isn't knackered.
What I'd do is get the engine running, let it tick over for 10mins then take it for a good long run. Then bring it home, park up, turn off the ignition and see if it will restart happily. If it restarts then your battery is charged; let it tick over for another few mins to replace the power used restarting and leave it overnight.
If it's dead the next morning then the battery is shot and needs replacing; if it was OK before your car went off the road then it will most likely be fine. (Car batteries can die if they're left discharged for a long time)
Good luck with it mate [8D]

I have almost the same problem, so I don't start a new topic.

My problem: My Uno -89 i.e 999cc died yesterday just as I was home. Then it couldn't start again because the battery seems to be flat (the alternator belt was really bad). The engine fail to turn, and all the lights turn black. After leaving the car for a while I managed to start it again, but after a few minutes it stoped (I changed the alternator belt btw).

I'm afraid it doesn't charge. I hope it is not the alternator, because the battery warning lamp is never turned on. It has been so for a couple of weeks, I know the lamp is good. The lamp doesn't even blink when the car is started... so I hope the batterylamp could have something to do with the problem. Maybe there is some wire loose? Were shold I look?

Hope you could help me.

Yes, the battery-lamp will flash for a few seconds when you start the car. (Or if you turn the key "half-way"). But my bastard never ligths, not even now when the battery is flat.

"Do all unos hate the icy weather?". I don't know, mine stared fine last week at -10 degrees (after replacing most of the electronics). But now I can't move the car, the breaks seems to have frozen. The right wheel is locked, impossible to move. I hope that the wheel will unlock in the spring or when it is +degrees again... otherwise I have no clue whas wrong with the brakes. [:(!](the weather forecast don't give me much hope :( )

I have an italian friend, that say that the italian engineers can't even imagine anyone live in such a terrible climate, that is why the Fiats don't work here :D)

on rear drums a build up of dust can cause the shoes to sieze with moisture also cheaper brake shoes seem more prone to this
