Unhappy My Uno has died

Bad news, another uno on it's way to the scrap yard
Just found out today that my Uno is as good as dead. The rust monster has been busy in the sill under the passenger door. I found this out when the jack went through the floor panel, luckily I had changed the tyre already and was lowering the car when it went through.
I got a qoute for £200 for it to be welded but it also needs the head gasket doing, a new tyre and the suspension arm replacing, strangely all on the same side. Adding on the cost to have the MOT done it's just not going to be worth fixing. The real annoying part is before it decided to die I had replaced the cat section of the exhaust and patched up the rust on the passenger door aswell as buying new brake pads / shoes and suspension arm.
Before I let the scrap-man take it I'll be removing all the new parts I fitted and selling them allthough I'll have to be quick because the tax runs out at the end of this month and it'll have to be off the scrap yard.

Re: My Uno has died

It is bad news, but it's also good that you have taken the hard decision. It is important to draw the line somewhere when it comes to patching up and fixing up...

As Pete points out, it is perfectly possible to buy another good Uno for many more years of faithful service. It's surprising that a 1993 Uno can die such a death. I suppose these cars (or some examples of these cars) are reaching their use-by dates. But they're not all bad news - just look at Chas' good example... seven years older than yours and still in good solid order...

Re: My Uno has died

Bad news , can you not spend a couple of bob on a mig welder and repair it ? . i know sills are cheap , but its sad news . I have just washed all the mud and **** from under my wheel arches , i try to keep the tin worm at bay but it is gonna eat eventually . I would buy a better Uno and use this for spares .

Re: My Uno has died

If you can weld it yourself (or get a mate to do it), you can buy the sill for £15...

Red face Re: My Uno has died

Have faith. Last month i posted my car was dead. I managed to get both sills done for £150. All is good. Im currently repairing the rust on my rear wheel arch and the rear passenger door, It looks like im gonna have to buy a new drivers door mines in tatters. lol. But I still keep faith. I bought my "90" uno 45 fire for £160 last december. To date I have spent £450 on her. (bloody hell didn't realise it was that much!!!!)

Re: My Uno has died

£450 is quite lot to spend on an Uno but if you know and love the car why not.

Re: My Uno has died

450? thats cheap.
mine cost £350 for the car
then a further £700 on new parts
(cat, clutch, brake master cylinder, clutch master cylinder, new front calipers)
unfortunatly this DOES NOT include MOT, Tax, Tyres and Mods. B*gger.
