Hi guys,I want to know if the Fiat Uno 1.7 d has a Bosch injection pump or Lucas pump because I want to run my car on wvo.If I'm not mistaken it's the same engine that's in the Mk1 punto and tipo.

Even if you guys tell me a way that I can check which one I have would be a big help.

Thanks !!!!

Hi, if you clean down the body of the injector pump the makers plate or stamping should be very evident. You could try typing into Google images 'fiat 1.7D injector pump'. Failing that I can take a photo of a bosch pump I have and post it here for you! It will be Monday before I can post a photo though. I hope those suggestions are a little help to you.

No reply as usual :(

dude, majority of the members have not owned a Diesel Uno and those who own may not be regulars in here. Thus wait patiently.

Back to your question, does the brand matter as long as the injection pump is working fine ?.

If your Uno is one of the earliest Diesels in India, then it is likely to have either Magnetti or Bosch pumps.

Hi eby, I did mentioned in my post why the brand was important and I did end up finding out that I have a lucas pump.I have a 1999 model. Thanks anyway.

Since you have mentioned the usage of biodiesel in your car, does bosch pump have any specific advantages over lucas or magnetti for biodiesel applications ?.

Mine is ELX 2000 model with Magnetti pump .

Hi Eby,

The thing is biodiesel will run fine but the problem is, it can cause seals in the lucas pumps to swell which isn't a problem until you switch back to the ultra low sulphur diesel at the pumps and the seals shrink and you end up with a leaking pump.
This how ever will only happen if your pump has older rubber seals. My lucas pump had been rebuilt 50000 Kilometres earlier by the previous owner and I guess the only seals you get now are made from a synthetic material called viton.

I've used biodiesel and switched back to normal diesel havn't had a leak in the seals but I had to change a leaky solenoid but that thing was 16 yrs old so its fine.

But the main reason I wanted to know about the pump is because I'm running my car on used cooking oil and the rule of thumb is boisch pumps are good but lucas pumps fail with the viscosity. Not really sure about how Magnetti Marelli injection pumps would fare but I'll find out.

I dont run the two tank systems that people use in europe.I blend the oil with diesel.70% oil and 30% diesel so that the viscosity seems fine to me and plus its summer in bangalore and the temps go up to 38 C.

I've done about 600kms on the veggie oil and have had no problems so far but i do filter it to 10 microns first :) .And the reason I'm not making biodiesel out of the veggie right now is because I'm out of methanol and blending the oil and using it directly is so much easier  :p .I wouldn't try this in the winter however. Tchau
