My Son has a Uno 1.4 Turbo, he has starting problems from cold. He has gone through two starter motors, one original and one recon. Start the car and sometimes it will start and other times it sounds like the battery is flat then starts to smoke. This has happened twice. We have charged battery and all connections are good. It was driven from Italy with no problems, It has only started playing up recently while in the UK.

Any help would be grateful before we try another starter. May have had a duff starter?

Hello there, some useless or helpfull info perhaps... I fitted a brand new battery and the starter motor burned the coil pack... (This info is for the MK 11 1372cc Turbo + Non Turbo) To replace with a genuine Bosch or even aftermarket type was too costly and so I picked up a Denso at the local scrapyard for less than half the price... It fits perfectly onto the gearbox, half the size and weight and even more powerful... See picture

Herewith starter model info...

Hi Everyone,
On the subject of Starter Motors, this morning I started my Fiat UNO 1100 and the Starter Motor just carried on turning with the engine running I switched off the ignition the engine stopped but the Starter Motor just carried on spinning. What I had to do was disconnect the battery to stop the starter motor from spinning.
I have some possibilities in mind, inspecting the plug connection to the Ignition or perhaps the coil on the Starter Motor has failed. Perhaps you guys have a better solution?

Regards
Budgie
