Hi all,
Nice forum you have here :D

I have a few problems with my Fiat Uno 45.

One of the major problems I have is:
there is oil where my spark plugs are thus making it not start sometimes. I am wondering what the best way of getting this out, also one of my leads are cracked but thats a different story :D.

#2: My handbrake works but is not very good, also my car breaks to one side, are these related somehow? and whats the best cause of action?

Not so major:

#3: Washer doesn't work too well on the front, only works when it feels like it, and it doesnt work at all on the back, is this a case of new motors?

#4: Rusty sills, is there a cheap place on the net i can get a panel or a bit of metal for it?

#5: Smoke coming from my manifold, but I think this is just due to me not doing the nuts up very tight.

#6: The indicator on the wing (see pic) fell behind, is this a case of removing the wing to get to it? Thanks

I ran my car for 10-15 mins today and it got to 90oC very quickly but it didnt go over that, is this a problem?

Also I think there is/was a water leak looking like it is coming from the pump, Will i be able to seal this up with some sealant (silicone?)

BTW my car has been stood for a year so there might be more problems! lol

Heres some pics of my car

Most are just whats wrong with the car.

PS Them photos are poor quality because I took them on my Nokia 6230

have you done work on it already?just when you say you may not have tightened the manifold.
oil in the plug recess?not really going to affect starting unless theres loads, just use a rag.cracked leads need replaced.
handbrake:check the cable and then remove the drum to check the mechanism
pulling to one side on braking could be one caliper working better than the other, binding brake or worn suspension components
washers could be blocked/perished pipes
sills, well theres a few online places or check round your local motor factors.welding is the main cost not the sills
remove the inner wing plastic liner to get the indicator
fit a new gasket to the water pump

now what you need to do is get a haynes manual!!!
also give the car a service since its been sitting so long. remeber you need to check evrything including tyres(cracks, bulges etc).brakes could be seized, brake fluid would be best replaced etc

Welcome to the forum – another MK1 driver (y)

Can I add to Custard’s reply that the spark plugs may be full of oil due to a blown cam cover gasket? That’s perhaps another thing to look at – but the gasket is cheep and easy to replace.

#3 The washers might just be a bad earth.

#5 do you have all 3 studs in tacked on the manifold join?

Regards,
Louie.

#3 The washers might just be a bad earth. - Might be, my earths look nasty (some of them)

#5 do you have all 3 studs in tacked on the manifold join? Yes, but I am unsure if they are secure or not because when i found it yesterday it would have been too hot to look at.

I have a haynes manual lol.

I have been doing a little bit of work on the car before yea :).

I forgot to say, I need a new rocker gasket as it was non existant! could that be why oil is in there?

have you done work on it already?just when you say you may not have tightened the manifold. - Yes
oil in the plug recess?not really going to affect starting unless theres loads, just use a rag. - Cool better than i thought :D cracked leads need replaced. should i do the plugs at the same time?
handbrake:check the cable and then remove the drum to check the mechanism
pulling to one side on braking could be one caliper working better than the other, binding brake or worn suspension components - Yea I got told this seems to be easy to do :)
washers could be blocked/perished pipes. - Will check that out
sills, well theres a few online places or check round your local motor factors.welding is the main cost not the sills - I would have to hire/buy a mig welder
remove the inner wing plastic liner to get the indicator - Cool :D
fit a new gasket to the water pump - is this an easy job?

Thanks all :)

I am a newbie mechanic but willing to learn ;)

I have them, just not one,

I took front + back plates on due to them being cracked (failing MOT) so just waiting to get car in road worthy condition then I will be getting some new ones :D

And I have colour coded my wingmirror (only have one :() so I will be putting that back on soon
