Hi Friends,

I am though registered long back but recently going through youtube, I came across a video wherein a Fiat Uno has been rebuilt and reformed into a four wheel drive off road vehicle. I wish if I could do the same or presently I am planning for a front wheel drive engine that is higher than the existing 1700CC Diesel engine (planning to plonk something like 2000CC or 2400CC) but for this, I need all your assistance and guidance. I would love to seek your inputs and suggestions on the same. Please help with your valuable inputs.

I saw in the video where he used the 4WD engine and a Gypsy chassis underneath the Fiat Uno Body which gave an extensive ground clearance and also a monster look.

I need your inputs on:
1. The engine which is suitable to be plonked in place of the existing 1.7D engine preferably the 2000CC capacity or 2400CC.
2. Though I don't want to give my vehicle a look of monster as I will be driving it mostly within the city limits where monsters can't be calm and will definitely harm other city animals (cars) either because of their height/dimension or by the excitement given to the driver to floor down the Gas pedal. I would seek your inputs to increase the ground clearance if possible without the Gypsy chassis underneath with a front wheel drive engine as the standard clearance is not that good and brushes against the bumps on the uneven stretches.

Hope to seek your valuable inputs and also suggestions that I may not have come across in this post.

1,9 liter engine is possible with the original Uno Turbo set up.
4 wheel drive ? What´s the point? Get a 4WD car and work on it.
Let an UNO be an UNO and don´t make some strange mix up out of it.
If you need more grip get a differential lock.

Hi Johorridoh. Thanks for the input. Yes actually that doesn't make any sense to convert a city car into a four wheel drive monster truck. My first preference and actual plan is to have a bigger engine as mentioned between 2000CC-2400CC. But the dream for a 4WD was just a craze what if it happens to work out but there are also legal complications invited if the 4WD monster truck type conversion is carried out. I am though also not technically that sound but from my car guy, I got suggestions that I can go for a Toyota C2 or N1 engine to be plonked in which has the capacity of about 2000CC to 2200CC. Is that true? and also would like to know about more engine models and options from different manufacturers like ISUZU, NISSAN, TATA other than FIAT as here in india though there are fiats running but the availability of talented and knowledgeable mechanics for the FIATs are very rare and hard to find a reasonable, capable and an experienced one. Please do suggest.

so basicly u jsut want an engine conversion to make a more powerful city car? if so i would look at old lancia or alfa engines. people have done lancia 2L twincam conversions in the past so the is some knowledge here.

For a powerful petrol uno, the best option has to be the new t-jet engines from the modern 500, bravo and punto lineup. there small capacity but some have reported 250bhp on standard internals.

a 4wd/awd conversion would be epic but imo its too much work unless you have epic amounts time, experience and quite a bit of money. if u really wanted to do it tho u would have to use the complete engine and drive train from a lancia intergrale which are now becoming rare and valuable.

also, yours being a diesel car, the fuel system would have to be completely changed for parts that are becoming rare anyway unless you want a fast diesel (i have no idea on these things). u could look at the punto HGT for this.

dont wanna put you off but whichever way you look at it, its alot of work and time.
