As some of you might now I'm in the process of restoring my 1990 uno mk2 fire. (black and sunroof) Will be fitting a 1.6 16v engine off a fiat bravo as well and will be an uno turbo look alike.

However as I was about to start an uno turbo conversion popped up. It's red, in excellent condition and a standard 1.4 turbo engine but no sunroof.

What would you go for? restore your love and joy or buy one which is ready for half the price??

This is how it stands at the moment, completely dismantled engine bay, now a good cleaning, reinforcing front end and re spray. Then the engine will be going in :D

Hey guys. After talking to a few friends, my mechanic and so on turns out everyone is angry at me for missing out quite a rare opportunity to buy an uno turbo.. in malta they are quite rare with only a handful on the island. Sooo I might have the uno turbo and fix mine up aswell :D:D pooorr wallet :bang: love these cars too much for my own good it seems

here are some pics of it in the restoration process. Don't have any pics of the finished car yet

Nah, junk the 16v coupe and use the 8v or 16v delta engine or the old fiat croma turbo engine without the balance shaft, they look the nuts in Uno's and the twin cams are tunable but still basic enough to do easy maintenance (y)

Spell it out, which types are we talking about here? Delta engine - is that the 1585 124-type TC, or the 1581 128-type SOHC with GM-designed TC head? Croma sounds like 2 litre 124-type TC - same as Thema? 16v Coupe is a completely different new TC design AFAIK.

It is a bit difficult to find engines over here. The best option is to get one from Italy. I managed to find the 1.6 16v bravo engine from Malta basically new with only 18,000Km on it. I plan to do something different rather then going down the usual road.

The 1.6 16v DOHC from the bravo/a is a great choice. Peanuts to buy these days and a healthy power output. It's also based on the old 1.6 8v SOHC engine used in the tipo/punto, which is related to the 1.4 8v SOHC used in the Uno Turbo and Uno 75.

Theoretically (and this is only theory), it will bolt in with minimal fuss using the engine mounts from an mk2 Uno Turbo or 75. You should even be able to use the turbo/75 gearbox and running gear on the 1.6 16v.

It's a project I have considered undertaking myself on a few occasions. Either and Uno or mk1 Punto, dropping in a 1.6 16v on GT/90 mounts.

You could, of course, go for the more modern 1.4 16v super fire engine (giving the same power output as the 1.6 16v) which will bolt in easily using the original 999cc fire mounts. Its a far more expensive and rarer engine though as its still fairly modern.

1.6 for me :)

you need to make a custom mount to fit the engine, the punto gt 1.4 and the punto sporting 1.6 mounts connect to the front of the engine where as the uno you mount it onto the side, you can fit the uno turbo engine mount onto them engines because they have the bolt holes in the side of the block still but in the 16v engine they just are not there

the 1.6 16v can go straight into a punto but not a uno there is no engine mount that fits you have to custom make one

The 1.6 16v DOHC from the bravo/a ... based on the old 1.6 8v SOHC engine used in the tipo/punto, which is related to the 1.4 8v SOHC used in the Uno Turbo and Uno 75
and in all pre-FIRE Unos and in the 128, X1-9, Strada/Ritmo etc.
Theoretically (and this is only theory), it will bolt in with minimal fuss using the engine mounts from an mk2 Uno Turbo or 75
or mounts as already in any pre-FIRE Uno.
