MK1 Mesh Grille??

Does anybody know where to get a grille like this shown in the attached picture? As I am going to be doing a mark 1 front end on my mark 2 but was wondering what grille this is as i quite like it. Is it from a Fiat Tipo?? Or does anybody know if a Tipo grille can be moddified to fit on an uno?

Re: MK1 Mesh Grille??

i'm certain there was a thread about this idea a while ago, i think most are simply cutting up the standard mk1 grille, doesnt look like an uno grille does it? stripes too short, i've got a spare grille in the shed that im planning to experiment on come the summer

Re: MK1 Mesh Grille??

dont do that. there is so much more potential for the mk1 grill rather than turning it into a mk2 look alike!

the mk1 grill its nicely styled as it is.. just respray it black with the silver fiat logo.. bling

Re: MK1 Mesh Grille??

I quite like the front end on this uno. It has the standard grille with the fiat badge sprayed black and a badboy bonnet. Might go for this look on mine. What you guys think??

The yellow Uno looks better. "Cleaner", straight lines.

Re: MK1 Mesh Grille??

Agreed!

I'm not a fan of mesh, though I guess if it was *black* mesh, it would have a Ferrari look to it!

That yellow Uno is crying out for a really BIG intercooler stuck out the front, don't you think?

There must be lots of Unos left in the world: there's always more pics we've never seen!

Re: the Tipo grille - I think you could make one fit, they're wider than an Uno grille. It may not be tall enough, though. A Tempra grille is subtly different - more angular - perhaps that would be better?

Re: MK1 Mesh Grille??

The black grill on the yellow Uno looks nice, though the bad boy bonnet is too 'Chav' for me.

I don't think the mk1 grill works to well at being modified because it is rather big. If it was meshed with just a rectangular surround it would probably look like a gaping hole in the front of the Uno. Black mesh might look a bit better, but it would be case of trying it out.

I'm keeping mine standard, though I was lucky enough to pick up a genuine Fiat twin spotlight grill for the mk1 Uno off Ebay for £1.00! One spotlight needs a new reflector, and the grill needs repainting but other than that it looks nice.

Then again, I like the clean look of the plain mk1 grill. Decisions decisions!

Hey Fro$ty, I forgot to ask. What makes you want to convert your mk2 Uno to a mk1 front?

Re: MK1 Mesh Grille??

Hey Chas,
The Mark 1s look more aggressive and retro than mark 2s. Marks 2s are more girly in my personal opinion. I agree about the grille as well, it should be left how it is. I may just spray the fiat logo black to keep things a bit more subtle but other than that i think it will have to be a standard mark 1 grille like that yellow one now

Hey Fro$ty,

Glad to hear that the mk1 look has its fans! I've always liked the look of the mk1 front, then again I'm biased as that's what both my Uno's were. It does look a bit more beefy and chunky than the mk2, and more distinct as the mk2 front looks much more like modern cars and tends not to stand out like a mk1 does.

Regarding the yellow car pictured, the grill looks nice all in black. I would almost accept the bad boy bonnet as it is more subtle than some available, though my preference is for the standard bonnet.

Weren't you going to fit a mk1 turbo tailgate? If you did (along with the mk1 rear lights), and also go for a mk1 front you'll end up with a mk2 Uno with mk1 styling!!! That's still cool in my book, and along with your body kit your Uno will have a much more aggressive stance.

I have to decide whether to use the spotlight grill in my Uno or not. Cleaned it today to get all the dirt off, will trial fit it sometime next week to see how it looks. Also, I got a bonnet grill scoop included in the same auction. I don't think I've ever seen one before - it fits over the grill at the back (windscreen end) of the bonnet. Anyone ever seen one of these before?

Not 100% sure that I will use the scoop as it might be a bit too boy racerish, but then again it is rather discreet. I'll try it and see, it might look quite nice.

Both the grill and the scoop say 'Made In Italy', and the glass on the spotlights say 'FIAT', so I suspect they were original options available from Fiat. I'm not sure though.

If I do use them, then the grill will be sprayed satin black with the Fiat logo kept in chrome, and the scoop will be body coloured to match the bonnet.

I've attached pictures of both so everyone can see what they look like.

Oh, and just to make everyone jealous I picked them up for £1 off Ebay! Postage took the total up to £10, but I think I got a bargain. I reckon I got them so cheap (no one else bidded) because the listing was named 'Fiat Uno Parts', so I suspect most people didn't bother to look.

Lucky me!

Chas

Re: MK1 Mesh Grille??

The plot thickens. That was a different grille - the lights and FIAT badge were in a different place...

I saw an Uno locally that had been fitted with a kit that replaced the standard headlights with four small rectangular units, and a different full-width grille. So it seems there were a number of 'styling' kits available.

I think it would be quite nice to fit a Mk2 Uno with four round projector lamps. Then again, it IS just a little hatchback, y'know

Yup, I was watching that too on Ebay Louie. The guy had a few but I think he's sold them all by now.

His was brand new, whereas mine is second hand and needs repainting plus a new reflector for one of the spotlights. However, his looked like an after market item and I think (not 100% sure) mine was a genuine Fiat accessory. Plus I got the bonnet scoop thing in with the deal, and the guy even threw in some owners manuals and servicing books!

Re: MK1 Mesh Grille??

The plan is to have a mark 1 front end and a mark 2 rear end, just so i can confuse a few people along the way lol I would like it to be a little different and original you see, Besides that i have seen that bonnet grille thing on a few uno turbos before and have always wondered where i can get one from so if you decide you dont want it i'll gladly take it off your hands

And to AlexGS four round headlights?? That would be turning it into a VeeDub!!!
