I have just changed the cam belt on my uno diesel and now the car won't start. Unfortunately the vehicle did run momentarily when the belt slipped as I had not tightened it up correctly but now I have definitely set the belt up correctly. When I start it up the engine sounds right but just will not fire I have taken off the injector pipes to make sure diesel is being injected - it is - just a tiny spurt and if I block the feed pipe with my finger the fuel spurts out under pressure, but if I put a drop of diesel into the air intakes and start the engine it starts up briefly, sounds right but then dies - presumably from lack of fuel. Have I broken the injector pump or have I got myself airlocked? I am in England and when I was doing the repair I was caught in a terrible downpour which would have soaked the engine I did notice that when I was setting up the various wheels for the timing belt the pump wheel was very easy to spin around. I dont know if this is normal
If anyone has any suggestions they would be gratefully received. It will be a shame if I have knackered the engine as the car will have to be scrapped as it isn't worth that much now (131,000 miles)
There must be a few diesel experts out there I know this forum is populated by nice people who know their stuff
thanks for reading
